Breaking Chains with Knowledge- 26th January - 31st October 2008

THIS PROGRAMME WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Remembering 2007 and the significance of the abolition of the slave trade have been highlighted with many excellent events this year. But is it just for this year to remember, the challenges black people were faced with throughout the Diaspora?
In 2008 Nu Century Arts takes the opportunity to provide an educational programme that will reverberate far beyond the abolition of the slave trade. ?Breaking the Chains with Knowledge? will resuscitate the unwritten history of the 18th century black presence in the UK through Drama, Music, and Dance, seminars and workshops will all be used to bring this history alive. The programme is free to anyone who is interested in digging deeper and making connections from present to past.
Mary Prince and Robert Wedderburn, Ira Aldridge and many more will be the focus of highlights and insights into that hidden past. Music lectures and workshops will highlight the lives and lifestyle of the many black musicians of that period. Pre Colonial Black Africa with their rich Kingdoms and civilisations will be opened to scrutiny. Additional workshops will be available for the younger ages to engage creatively with the material.
You are invited by Nu Century Arts to join us on this journey to a better understanding of Black History.
