Since being founded in 2000, Nu Century Arts has established an international reputation for producing ground breaking and influential work of a global standard. Based in the Handsworth area of Birmingham UK, its mission statement is to make a lasting difference.
CROSSING BRIDGES
CROSSING BRIDGES is a one year project that aims to bridge the gap between the generations of African Caribbean and Asian communities. We aim to shine the light on the historical, the cultural, the economic and the social connectedness between the people. We aim to break down the superficial barriers that have been constructed here in Handsworth. We aim to show an interactive history that dates back before Christ and to share the shared contemporary experience between the two cultures and between the generations. SUPPORTED by Heritage Lottery we will, over the next six months be carrying out research into that Ancient past to reveal things that will surprise and sometimes shock you. So keep your eyes and ears open because we will be sharing everything that we discover. We will keep you informed of seminars, workshops and lectures where you will be able to participate and learn.
We are still looking to recruit 5 young people who will be part of a core group to carry out the research, join in with activities with the elders and present the findings to the wider community.
